Privacy Policy
Web of History
Effective date: March 29, 2026
The short version
🔒 No accounts, no tracking, no analytics. The app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
📱 All data stays on your device. Reading progress, quiz scores, theme preferences, and image cache are stored locally and never leave your device.
🌐 One external connection. The app contacts Wikipedia's API to fetch thumbnail images. No personal data is included in these requests.

Information We Collect

Web of History does not collect any personal information. The app does not require registration, does not ask for your name, email, or any other personal details, and does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking frameworks.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores a small amount of data locally on your device using standard browser storage (localStorage within the app's sandboxed WebView). This data never leaves your device and includes:

You can reset your reading progress at any time using the "reset" button in the app. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

Network Requests

The app makes a single type of network request:

When you view an entry's detail, the app may contact Wikipedia's REST API (en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1) to fetch a thumbnail image for that entry. These requests contain only the Wikipedia article title — no cookies, device identifiers, or personal data are included. The Wikimedia Foundation's own privacy policy governs their handling of API requests.

If thumbnail images cannot be loaded (e.g., when offline), the app displays a category icon as a fallback. All textual content — entry names, descriptions, connections, and tour narratives — is bundled locally and requires no network access.

Third-Party Services

The app does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or social media SDKs. The only third-party service contacted is the Wikimedia REST API as described above.

External links within the app (to Wikipedia articles and curated further reading sources) open in an in-app browser (SFSafariViewController). Your interaction with those websites is governed by their respective privacy policies.

Children's Privacy

Web of History is an educational reference app suitable for all ages. It does not collect personal information from any user, including children under 13. The app complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations by virtue of collecting no data whatsoever.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share any user data with any third party — because we do not have any user data to share.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Because the app collects no data, we do not anticipate significant changes.
